Sarasota holds a ceremony in remembrance of September 11 at 8:30am Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the front entrance to the Sarasota Police Department, 2099 Adams Lane in Downtown Sarasota. The FREE event is open to the public.

City of Sarasota, Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and the Sarasota County Fire Department will participate along with the Police Department.

A memorial to the First Responders stands in the lobby of the Sarasota Police Department. The pedestal holds 14-foot-long artifact from the World Trade Center. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey donated the 2,500-pound piece to the Sarasota Police Department. The formal dedication of the memorial took place in Sarasota on the tenth anniversary of the attack.
