Hidden River | Residential Airpark
Located about 15 miles east of Sarasota, Hidden River offers the only fly-in community in the area. This airpark neighborhood includes 108 residential lots in a private gated community of about 780 acres. Since each residence has at least five acres of property, most homeowners may keep their aircraft at home. Most of the roadway at Hidden River doubles as an aircraft taxiway. More than a fly-in community, Hidden River includes canopy roads, lush Old Florida landscapes, equestrian trails and abundant wildlife. The neighborhood attracts pilots and horse lovers to this private gated property, the only neighborhood between New Port Richey and Fort Myers with its own landing strip.
Hidden River lies on the edge of Myakka River State Park and even harbors a historic Calusa Indian village in a wooded part of the community.
Frank Smith created Hidden River in 1966 from his east Sarasota County cattle ranch. The rest of his land became part of the Crowley Museum Nature Center and Myakka River State Park. He also developed Oyster Bay and South Gate neighborhoods in Sarasota.
